Southern School of Internet Governance

Between 27 and 31 May 2024, the 16th edition of the South School of Internet Governance – SSIG was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a training space for new generations of professionals to actively participate in meetings where the future of the Internet network is being shaped.
 
The main objective of the SSIG is to get young students and professionals from different disciplines in Latin America and the Caribbean involved in the debate on Internet Governance and to understand its importance for the future of the Internet and the development of the region.
 
The face-to-face event was attended by representatives of different actors of the internet ecosystem, who highlighted the importance of the multistakeholder model in the discussions on Internet Governance and spoke about the challenges faced in the digital environment in Latin America and the Caribbean, with special spaces dedicated to 5G, Artificial Intelligence, internet infrastructure, among other topics.
During this edition, the SSIG received the WSIS award, granted by the International Telecommunications Union – ITU in the category International Cooperation, sharing the online transmission of the award ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, with the group of grantees present at the meeting venue in Buenos Aires.
On 31 May, the Secretary of the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Governance Forum – LACIGF, participated in the session on the Internet Governance Forum NRIs and other Internet forums, where representatives from the global Internet Governance Forum, the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and the Kuwait Institute of Information Technology were also present.
 
SSIG offers its fellows the possibility of accessing a Diploma in Internet Governance and Regulation at no cost, doing research under the tutelage of the University of Mendoza, Argentina.
 
We congratulate those who year after year promote the South School of Internet Governance for the award received and for the development of this new edition, we appreciate the opportunity to participate in this space sharing about the progress and challenges of Internet Governance in Latin America.
